Overseas licence holders are required to convert their international licence to a Victorian driver’s licence within 6 months of their arrival. VicRoads recognises certain countries for direct conversion of licence. However, in the majority of cases, you must pass the Learners test, Hazard Test and Drive test to receive your licence.
Book an appointment with your local VicRoads office to get your overseas licence verified. Appointment bookings can be made either online or by calling 131171 or by visiting your local VicRoads office. If your licence is not in English then an official translation from NAATI is required. In certain cases, VicRoads will refer you to your embassy to provide an official verification of the document provided. If the licence is accepted by VicRoads then your overseas driving history will be considered at the time of licence issue. If your licence cannot be verified then you will need to hold a Victorian learners permit for the minimum holding time based on your age.
Book your Learner Permit Test Online with VicRoads through the overseas licence conversion section. This is the most cost-effective way. You can also attend the test at a VicRoads Service centre in person. If you need an interpreter attending in person is the only option.
